Whenever I see an ad, it doesnt usually cross my mind about who else is seeing that particular ad. I usually think about what their advertising, and who their audience is. Lets face it, there are some pretty risky ads out there these days, but we as a society are used to seeing them now. Iv personally grown up looking at sexual ads because that's all there is, and sometimes I dont think twice about it. But, we need to start thinking about who else is viewing these ads.
Kid's are growing up in a society where all they see is sex. It's all around and it's starting to seem like it wont ever go away. Some stores try to advertise things for young girls and get their attention. For an example, the brand Candies; Hilary Duff was a spokes girl for them, and there were many settle commercials that were innocent and grabbed young girls attention. But, my guess is, Candies wanted to take a risk. And they did. Why would anyone want to show an ad like the one above, yet have your audience be young girls? There isn't even clothing in this ad, and honestly, a women sitting on a toilet isn't that appealing. It's sad to see that society has come to terms with the fact that it's okay for young kids to see ads like this, and expect them to be drawn to it.
This advertisement is completely innapropriate. Especially for a candies ad when they sell there clothes at kohls which is considered more of a family oriented department store. I dont know why having her sitting on a toilet with her underwear around her ankles is for a shoe add. Advertising has become more and more innapropriate and completely sexist.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with some of these ads are, they don't exactly think about their entire target audience. In the media, sex sells and they're going to do whatever they can to sell their product. I agree with what you're saying in that society is trying to normalize sex. Thinking it's okay if a younger audience sees this, because they want to be "sexy" so maybe if they start acting like this they'll get noticed. I think it's just giving kids, especially young girls the wrong message. As well as giving guys the wrong message that all girls are like this. What if after seeing this ad some girl takes a picture of herself just like this and posts is on her my space page. Thinking that "oh it's okay, i saw an ad like in a magazine". We shouldn't be giving kids the wrong message, they're innocent and don't need to be subjected to seeing this. I understand some people will say, well they don't have to look at it, or buy their products. I think that parents who see this ad, should talk with their chilren about how not to act like this so they don't get the wrong impression. Yet, still in the back of the kids minds they may be thinking,"I secretly want to be like her".
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they would have this ad displayed for young girls. It sends out a bad message maybe they were trying to say that if teens are buying their products its time for them to mature! But then that would be useless to Candies... So maybe they were saying that younger women who can fit into teen clothing should be wearing Candies. Oh my its just wrong however we look at it!
